Description of contents:
In order to reach Skalbmierz, it is necessary to chose the way towards Proszowice and Kazimierza Wielka after leaving Cracow. Skalbmierz is not too big town, where you can feel a little bit asleep. The Cracow's Canonic Stanislaw (died in 1431) and the first rector of the renewed in 1400 Cracow Academy came just from that place. First of all , there have preserved there the relics of the former- coming from the XII century collegiate St. John Baptist's Church. The Skalbmierz Temple was a church possessing one nave, closed with a no longer existing apse ( in its place now it is present the trapezoid Gothic shutting with fenders and two four sided towers from the western side. The church had significant sizes,, the towers measured over 20 metres.. In the middle of XV century there was added a big Gothic naves possessing corpus (from the western side), the result being the conversion of the Roman Style nave to a presbytery's form. At the same moment, the towers were set in within the temple's length, that way closing from the east the by- side naves. Till now, there preserved the made in the opus emplectum technics presbytery walls with remained traces of the slanted windows, and practically all the towers, however the biforia were bricked. The sharply bowed windows were ripped up and their helmets were changed. The arcade opening the southern tower's by- floor towards the southern by- side nave was also perforated.
